Title of the short story : My Wife
Author : Guy de Maupassant
Number of pages : 8
The Facts
The main character of this story is a man named Pierre Letoile. In a
dinner party, he and his friends was talking about their wife and how
they found them. Then, out of nowhere, the conversation turned into a
story of how Pierre ended up wit his pretty and charming wife.
Actually, at first Pierre did not want his wife at all. He was
attending his cousin party, when he was, unwillingly, be paired up
with Mademoiselle Dumoulin, a daughter of a retired colonel. He did no
like the lady. She was boring, love to drag him everywhere, and make
him dance willy-nilly. Therefore, when the party had ended, he went
outside, toward a countryfolks party, where he danced, played, and
drank until he nearly passed out.
When he realized that it was already too late in the night, he went
home to his cousin’s house, and struggled, for he was heavily drunk,
to find his room. After some difficulties, he finally found his room.
Then, he just hopped into the bed. In the morning, he awakened by the
sound of someone screaming. Blearily, he opened his eyes and saw
someone running out of the room. Not too long, someone bang in his
door. It was his cousin. He asked him what he had done in the room of
Mademoiselle Dumoulin.
Actually, the room he had slept in was not his room but the
Mademoiselle’s. with all that commotion, the colonel found out about
that and demanded that Pierre married his daughter. With a heavy
heart, he agreed to marry because he did not want to leave the lady
with a ruined reputation. At their first night, he found the lady
crying in their room because she thought that he did not want her and
felt that she was just a burden. Seeing that, Pierre realized that was
quite fortunate to have a pretty and kind woman as his wife.
Personal Response
It is a nice story with good moral value that we can learn, like
‘drink alcohol is never a good thing’.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Title: Diary of a Wimpy Kid
The last straw
Author: Jeff Kinney
Pages: 217
Interior Monologue:
This is the first series of Diary of a Wimpy Kid that I read. It was very unique and different from other stories that I have read. The main character is Greg Heffley. His ideas were really funny and sometimes weird. I do not think that a normal person will have the same ideas come up in their mind or even mine. One of his funny ideas was when he commended on the bedtime stories read by his mother to Manny, his brother. He said they are easy to write and his mother asked him to write one story. Instead of ignoring that point he did make a story. He chose a snappy name for the character which was Mr. Shorpsharp and he made sure that Mr. Shorpsharp had a lesson at the end of the story. Then in the story he told that Mr. Shorpsharp hated a polar bear because polar bear was the most useless animals in the world. One day he got an accident and was helped by a polar bear and he changed his though about a polar bear. I think the story was odd and has no point and the funniest thing was he sent his comic to a publisher. He was really confident about his comic and he waited the publisher to send his fee. What a ridiculous thought was that. I mean a junior high school student writes a comic and beliefs that his first shoot will be success. However I will just neglect if my mother said the same thing.
